Sea level rise
Preparing for change along our shores
Rising sea levels and more severe storm flooding as a result of climate disruption are impacting Marin County now. Even when the sun shines, Marin County already experiences more frequent flooding. This happens both on the Pacific Coast in West Marin and along our San Francisco Bay shorelines.
Two ongoing County planning programs coordinate with one another, and with Marin's cities and towns, to address these issues:
- Marin County Department of Public Works leads adaptation planning for Marin's bay shoreline
- Marin County Community Development Agency leads adaptation planning for Marin's ocean coast
People in both the Bayside and Coastal areas need to understand how sea level rise may affect their homes, schools, roads, public facilities, and natural resources. Together, we can begin to prepare for these impacts.
