Budget
Revenue
The District as a whole has no source of revenue. Instead, revenue is collected through ad valorem taxes and fees paid by property owners in one of eight zones covering distinct geographical areas within the District.
Expenditures
All expenditures by the District require authorization by the Board of Supervisors of the District. The five members of the Marin County Board of Supervisors serve on the District’s board.
Funding
The District as a whole has no source of funds. All Zones, with the exception of Zone 10, receive annual revenues from property tax and in some cases special taxes or fees.
The amount of property taxes received by the Zone is based on the pre-Proposition 13 tax allocation. It varies depending on property tax base of the Zone and pre-proposition 13 tax rates.
All revenues in the District are collected through the Zones and must be spent in the Zone providing funding.
