Santa Venetia TRB Maintenance
About
Approximately 98 parcels along Gallinas Creek in Flood Zone 7 (Santa Venetia) have timber-reinforced berms (TRB) along the levee to provide additional protection against high tides.
The TRB was constructed about 40 years ago in response to flooding during the early 1980s. While the TRB reduces the flood risk for approximately 600 parcels in the community, the wooden box-style structure has exceeded its service life. The TRB has exposed sections and the earthen levee upon which it is built is experiencing erosion. This condition compromises the integrity of the structure and its capacity to reduce flooding.
While a complete re-build of the levee is being pursued for Zone 7 (see the separate project here), the District will continue to perform annual maintenance of the TRB as much as the Zone 7 budget allows.
In 2024, TRB maintenance work is planned to be performed at a selection of high priority locations. This work will be led by the Marin County Department of Public Works’ Roads Maintenance Division.
